Lighthouse Beach
It's right there
The weather has been hot. The water has been a relief.
Lighthouse Beach was closed yesterday because there was a shark spotted. Quick, get out of the water! There have been times when there have been more sightings and attacks. It’s a very short walk for us to the beach.
In 2019, there were 60 Bullsharks swimming off Lighthouse Beach. 60!!
There was a big fuss in 2016. People died.
It’s something that I would think about everytime when in the sea…..
I haven’t lived so close to the sea ever in my life. It is the great Australian thing to be near the ocean. When I was a kid we lived in Byron Bay and we were a ten minute walk to the beach. It’s nice to be back.
It is also true to say that there are not that many people in the sea swimming. More at this holiday time but thankfully not like scenes you would witness on Sydney beaches.
Everyone wants to live near the sea and look at it, but not so many jumping in it. I don’t think that is out of fear. It’s because everyone has to work harder and longer I suspect. Coming here to this beach 5o years ago in summer it was jammed.
I remember it like this.
Not many fat people, not many tattoos.
I’ll go for a walk along the breakwater in the cool of the evening and hear the sounds and smell the sea.
